Sydnie Ozanus has experience working summers and after school in her hometown of Little Elm as a greeter and waitress for local restaurants. She is now a Pre-Medical student at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, where she hopes to gain skills she can use to get into medical school and work in the healthcare/medical field. She wouldn’t have gotten her start at Texas Tech without the jobs she worked to earn experience and money she would use at college.

Greeters at restaurants are the first people guests see when they walk in the door. Many customers will walk right out if they feel uncomfortable or ignored by these greeters, so workers like Sydnie Ozanus have very important jobs. Greeters serve the essential purpose of directing customers to open tables or giving them information on how long it will be before a table is available. Many customers walk into a restaurant nervous to enter a place a business like this. They often don’t know what to do. Greeters like Sydnie Ozanus have to make them feel welcome and instruct them in the operations of the restaurant. Do they wait to be seated? Can they just sit down wherever? Aside from these essential functions, greeters have to assuage these minor common concerns quickly so that customers can begin their dining experience comfortably.

Sydnie Ozanus doesn’t plan to work in restaurants for her career, but learning the basics of customer service and making people feel welcome will be a large part of her job as a doctor one day.

Sydnie Ozanus - Three Excellent Travel Tips

Sydnie Ozanus loves to travel whenever she can. She was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma and moved to Little Elm, Texas while in the fifth grade. Her mother raised her and the traveled the area as much as they could. Ozanus completed her freshman year in the Pre-Medical program at Texas Tech University in 2016 after graduating a year early from Prosper High School. Ozanus has learned these three excellent travel tips to help others venturing out into the unknown:

• Be patient. Things don’t go as planned when you’re traveling. Sometimes you miss the bus, can’t find an ATM, or your plans get trampled. Just take a deep breath and remind yourself that it could always be worse. If the local shop doesn’t have what you need, go and explore the next village. Be ready to make changes to your plans and roll with the punches.
• Get up early. Sydnie Ozanus doesn’t particularly enjoy waking up at sunrise, but when traveling to a place you may not be able to return to anytime soon, it pays to get up early and avoid the crowds and find that magic hour for excellent photography.
• Stash cash everywhere. No matter where you’re traveling, cash is always accepted. If your card stops working or you lose your wallet, it pays to have a few stashes of cash in your socks, your suitcase, or even sewn into a shirt. Sydnie Ozanus hasn’t had to use a cash stash yet, but it could be a lifesaver especially if you’re abroad.

Sydnie Ozanus plans on traveling throughout her life after she earns her medical degree.
